Congress Passes Legislation to Make Public Epstein Records

The upper chamber of Congress on Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will force the release of investigative files related to the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a near-unanimous vote in the lower house and a change of position by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The White House gave in after months of trying to block the joint action involving a scandal that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Swift Approval in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, speeding up the process. Earlier that day, the House voted decisively for the bill on a 427-1 tally.

Citizens have endured sufficient delay. The survivors have waited long enough,” the top Senate Democrat stated in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before asking the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Let the truth come out. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next will be sent to Donald Trump for his approval. Trump stated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Even though the president has for an extended period rejected the uproar over the government’s handling of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he expressed his backing for the House bill over the past few days, and stated he would sign the measure if it comes to him.

Response

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their representatives who were watching from a House gallery, cheered after the bill was enacted. Lone dissent came from a GOP representative, who stated he was concerned the measure would make public specific data of individuals involved, persons of interest and others involved in the investigation.
